Who are Cementing Futures?

Cementing Futures is an educational development charity bringing education, hope and dignity to children living in the slums of Dhaka who cannot currently access state provided education. Pre-primary and primary education is provided by securing premises, trained teachers and equipment along with a daily nutritional snack. The children are taught basic literacy and numeracy in both Bengali and English with an aim of moving into the state education system as the opportunity arises.

Our Goal

Our goal is to offer underprivileged children in the slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh, sufficient education to enter the state system when the opportunity arises.

Currently, at Nijera Shikhi in Adabor district, we are supporting 55 children who will have completed 3 years education in December 2015 but have no state school to move on to at the moment. We need to raise funds for them to continue their education and also support this year’s 20 entrants to the pre-primary class.

At Mohammadpur Literacy Centre we will continue to support the education of 30 girls per year prior to their entering the state system.

The need for education of these deprived children is immense and there are many more children we would like to help when we raise sufficient funds.

Get Involved

  • Cementing Futures has allowed 55 children who could not otherwise have attended school to participate in different programmes as well as Bengali, English and Arithmetic. They have increased their knowledge and courage by sharing with each other celebrations, games, singing and dancing.

Cementing Futures was founded and is still supported and run by members of Soroptimist International. The charity is run to provide education for underprivileged children in Bangladesh with projects being run and overseen by SI Dhaka and NGO Nijera Shikhi.
